A Lockdown Reflection: Five Tracks By Five Female Artists You Need To Know About.

Biddy Ronelle – “Let The Music Play”

We are all aware artists and musicians, especially those that are independent and anyone else involved in some sort of art form, have been hit hard by the global pandemic.

You all remember the ‘Let The Music Play’ Campaign that flooded social media back in early July, backed by many in the music industry as a plea for more government help and funding? Well, independent, British country rock songstress, Biddy Ronelle originally from Leeds and duo project partner, David Luke, were already two steps ahead with the perfect soundtrack sitting on the back shelf since March (yes, ironically, the start of lockdown when all the pubs, clubs and theatres were planning for shutdown), just patiently waiting. Well, that wait is very nearly over.

WARNING: Goosebumps pending. Biddy Ronelle and music partner David Luke’s beautiful, melodic charity single, “Let The Music Play”, is due for official release on August 28th, but you can pre-order from August 14th and we highly recommend you do!

Donna Marie – “Better Days”

We’re all hoping for “Better Days” to come along, before facemasks and hand sanitizer were your essential bag accessories and a thing of the past. Just ask multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer-songwriter from Warrington, UK, Donna Marie, bringing the Southern sound of Nashville to our English ears with this strong contender. “Better Days” is an ultimate country rock tune, with it’s earthy and blues driven guitars giving you the feeling of strength and courage and a sense of freedom waiting just around the corner.

“Better Days” was co-written with country, singer-songwriter Emma Moore back in December 2018 and released on Donna’s very own record label called CLIMBING MOUNTAIN RECORDS. As a nominee for Best Country Act 2019 and a part in the touring theatre show ‘A Country Night In Nashville’ (pre-lockdown) under her belt too, Donna is a force to be reckoned with, proving that anything is possible with true grit and determination.

Lets pretend we’re in a bar on Nashville’s music row, while listening to “Better Days”: https://open.spotify.com/album/6VATRPgP9yXpOuBO64pRaC

Halle Kearns – “Pick Me Up”

If you’ve been in need of a little “Pick Me Up” just lately (we certainly don’t blame you!) then this feel-good debut single by emerging, Missouri-born, Nashville-based artist, Halle Kearns is the perfect summer playlist partner, just craving back road country drives and field-side walks.

Halle is already making a name for herself after only a year of living in music city, opening for the likes of Trace Adkins, David Nail, Casey Donahew and The Oakridge boys to name a few and having worked with some of Nashville’s top songwriters and producers. This rising star is certainly high up in the ranks for us and this song has us dreaming about hazy summer days and blues skies as far as the eye can see. If you’re a fan of Kacey Musgraves calming and mellow vocals, mixed with the traditional and contemporary elements of American country music, then this is for you.

Lisa Redford – “Summer on the L

Longing for the time when travelling to tranquil beaches abroad and taking exciting city breaks are in our reach once more? Clearly UK, Norwich-based, Acoustic, Americana and Folk Pop artist, Lisa Redford is feeling the same, reminiscing about the time she was living in New York with a newly released music video to accompany her song “Summer on the L”. From making new friends and memories to the up’s and down’s and as an artist finding her feet in the Big Apple, this song has summer written all over it!

The king of country music radio and the host of BBC Radio 2’s, The Country Music show with Bob Harris, refers to Lisa as “One of our finest singer/songwriters” and we could not agree more. Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles is just one profound artist who springs to mind when listening to Lisa’s quirky, distinctive vocals.

Zoee – “The Song We Sing”

“The Song We Sing” is a song we all need to be singing right now! The heartwarming anthem by Australian-born, UK–based, multi-award winning, Alt- Country/ Americana singer songwriter, Zoee, is all about spreading positivity and reminding us that life is full of highs and lows and we just need to ride along with it as best we can.

Like so many artists, Zoee and her band were looking forward to performing for fans all across the globe this year, but instead had to face the cancellation of their UK, European and US 2020 tour and livelihood, following the pandemic. But, of course where there’s a will, there’s a way and Zoe is certainly proving this to be true, in her latest efforts to spread joy the only way she knows how, through the power of music.
