Kent-based musician and composer Chris Lewington’s new release is the laid-back folk album you’ve been looking for. ‘Riverside’ is Chris’ second solo venture, having previously gained mainstream success leading The Silence and The Bicycle Thieves and features 12 tracks drawing influence from the sounds of the 60s and 70s, blended seamlessly with Chris’ unique style. You’ll find it to be best enjoyed while relaxing with your thoughts and letting yourself go into the blissful world of folk.
The first track of the album ‘After The Sun’ is now accompanied by a suitably aesthetic music video that you can check out below.
Much like classic albums from legends such as The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix, ‘Riverside’ was named lovingly after the place it was created, in this case Chris’ home in the heart of rural kent. You can hear the British influence running throughout the album as an ode to his homeland, particularly in the track ‘Armistice Day’ which was inspired by Rupert Brookes’ famous poem The Soldier.
As well as crafting, writing and producing his own album, Chris has an impressive musical history having performed on the same stage as everyone from Captain Sensible to Jah Wobble to The Breeders. It’s clear to see why his sound is enjoyed by so many as ‘Riverside’ explores a range of styles from the upbeat, catchy folk earworm that is ‘Never Let Her Slip Away’ to the dreamy acoustics of ‘Ocean Girl’, there really is something for everyone.
Don’t just take my word for it, have a listen yourself of Soundcloud and discover the album you’ll find yourself reaching for whenever you’re looking to wind-down and immerse yourself in an atmospheric, addictive folk soundscape.
