Whiteleaved Oak has stood in Malvern Hills Herefordshire for approximately 500 years, a spot revered by thousands of nature lovers and druids. As a result of a recent and horrific arson attack on the woodland many trees faced destruction, including a tree considered to have huge spiritual importance to Druids and Pagans across the globe.
The incident has devastated hundreds of individuals across the world, but has prompted a fantastic response from musicians who have been touched by the tragedy.
Glastonbury based rock musician Lui Krieg has teamed up with the dedicated campaigners behind We The People- Save Our Ancient Woodland, to release a single to honour the lost nature and raise funds for the organisation to continue their work in tree conservation and planting schemes.
The aptly titled track Wildwood is available for just £1, with all proceeds going towards saving our ancient trees. Lui Krieg comments-
Along with the government trying to destroy the UK’s ancient woodlands with HS2 and other projects in the name of “progress”, we are now dealing with vandals attacking Ancient Trees, including in recent years the cutting down of the 2000 year old “Holy Thorn” along with the arson attack on the ancient oaks, Gog and Magog, here in Glastonbury, Somerset.
This is happening all over the country now. In response to this urgent issue and the destruction of the Whiteleaved Oak, I have produced a moving song dedicated to the Ancient Trees and Woodlands of the British Isles.
We commend Lui for the fantastic work he is doing for an amazing cause, we hope people get behind the campaigners so they may continue their amazing work.
