As reported by Chronicle Live, Glee actress Naya Rivera died saving her son’s life, police in America have revealed.
The 33-year-old, best known for playing Santana Lopez on the hit show, disappeared last Wednesday after taking a boat trip with son Josey, 4, at Lake Piru in California.
Josey was found asleep on his own on the boat Naya hired for them and he has since told investigators she didn’t get back on and he saw her disappear under the water.
A search was launched for Naya, with her family and ex Ryan Dorsey, father of Josey, heading to the lake over the past few days but then on Monday, sheriffs revealed that a body had been found and they were confident it was Naya.
And then in a heartbreaking statement, Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub revealed: “She mustered enough energy to get her son back onto the boat, but not enough to save herself.
Ayub added that there was “no indication of foul play and no indication this was a suicide.”
Several of Naya’s Glee cast members, including on-screen friend turned girlfriend Heather Morris, headed straight to Lake Piru to pay tribute to her and others were quick to pay their respects online.
Jane Lynch, who played cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester on the hit show, said: “ Rest sweet, Naya. What a force you were. Love and peace to your family.”
And fans of the show have been revisiting Naya’s tragic cover of If I Die Young.
