I am Tru Starr is an artist who speaks from experience, creating tracks full of emotion and feeling, with his newest single Something’s Gotta Change being no exception.
Having spent 5 years in federal prison, I Am Tru Starr sees the tack as a way of paying back his debt to society. The single combines elements of both soul and hip-hop and is taken from the artist’s forthcoming album Viva. I Am Tru Star hopes that his newest single will resonate with this generation, as it tackles issues at the very heart of Black Lives Matter.
Listen to Something’s Gotta Change here:
Having grown up in Rochester, New York and now based in Las Vegas, I Am Tru star has experienced first hand what it means to be alive in 2020 as a young black man. With powerful lyrics and an infections rhythm, Something’s Gotta Change is an important comment on society everywhere.
“This society is sedated and I wanna do my part in waking ‘em up. It’s about time real music got the light it deserves. No politics. No label tricks. No big city backing. My family explained to me when I was young that Emmett Till (whose lynching was a major influence on the emergence of Black Rights in 50s and 60s America) was a distant cousin, and what he went through has always helped to fuel the passion in my music”.

As the first track to be released from the forthcoming album, Somethings Gotta Change gives us an insight into what is to come. Not just focusing on the problems with today’s society, but also appreciating life and all the important things in it that make it worth living, we can’t wait to see what audiences will think of Viva this Autum.
Fast forward a few years, I’m living in Vegas, became a father and I now see what life is and all it can be and just how beautiful it is. We are all in a place of appreciation for life and the things that truly matter. VIVA! Long live us!”
