Fresh of the back of the success of their highly praised singles ‘Silent Screams’ and ‘Your Story’, ‘Bitter’ is the final teaser from ‘Millie Manders and the Shutup’ that we will receive on the 7th August before their debut album ‘Telling Truth, Breaking Ties’ is unleashed to the world on October 23rd. Sticking true to their love of hardcore riffs and punchy vocals, this track is punk-rock to the core, oozing with soaring choruses and the ska-influenced twist on classic punk that they have become renowned for.
“Millie Manders and The Shutup as one of the UK’s most vital acts, and an adrenaline boost to even the most stoney-hearted music fan”
The London and Norwich based group consists of Millie Manders herself on Vox/Ukulele/Saxophone, Alessandro Vitiello on Drums, James Pendle on Guitars, Georgina Boreham on Bass and Dominic Walker on Sax/Trumpet/Synths. Throughout their album ‘Telling Truth, Breaking Ties’ you’ll be taken on an emotional rollercoaster of heartbreak, depression, anxiety and following dreams with each track presenting a new flawless blend of genres such as punk, ska, hiphop, pop and metal. Just when you think you know what to expect from this album, you’ll find yourself discovering a new layer of musical brilliance.
Not only does the standout sound of ‘Bitter’ make a statement but ‘Millie Manders and the Shutup’ are here to tackle important topics through their lyrics. The new single deals with the abandonment, trauma and maltreatment which arises from rape and sexual abuse and the bitterness this can catalyst.
Another one of our favourites from the album is ‘Silent Screams’ which incorporates the classic ska soundscape of legends such as ‘Madness’ and ‘The Specials’ with catchy melodies, sharp rock hooks and powerful vocals. Mander’s ability to addressing difficult topics in a raw and vulnerable manner throughout the album without feeling forced and willingness to warp your expectations of punk, working within genres outside of most’s comfort zones are what make Manders an obvious one to watch as their debut release draws closer.
“Manders’ music never feels overwrought with commentary, yet manages to convey its messages effortlessly”
