Caravan Palace have carved out a legendary reputation for themselves as Parisian mainstays in the electronic dance music scene. They describe their music on Spotify as a “potent cocktail of jazz, electro hedonistic beats and vintage sounds“, and this new single arms itself with all of these qualities, and then some.

Although Caravan Palace never seem to allow themselves to become stat – obsessed, their music has gained traction throughout all walks of the internet, and particularly on social media. As they ready themselves for new music in 2024, they have released “MAD” which has garnered over 10 million views on TikTok, yet the band will be the first to admit that this is down solely to their fan base, and not their own promotion. The hardcore fans and potentially people who have stumbled across their music just cannot help but embrace their infectious grooves and genre defying mashups, and this will surely continue with the release of their new single “Reverse”

This energetic new single throws a curve ball within its first few seconds. Listeners are greeted with a guttural and dark saxophone line that seems to be leading down a noir path, but it is quickly cut short by an explosion of vibrant disco beat. Caravan Palace return with another groovy collage of slick guitar licks, warm synthesizers and a thumping beat of kicks and clicks. The song is undoubtedly a dance floor anthem made for the club, but Caravan Palace keep things interesting, bringing in jazzy elements to accent the disco. At times the beat will drop away and the saxophone line that kicked things off will come in, this time with a merrier context. Other horn lines can be heard atop the mix at certain points, lending themselves to this feeling of electro / club / jazz fusion that Caravan Palace have begun to perfect.

Lyrically the song is at odds with itself. Its stuck in two minds between merriment and loneliness, but with a general feeling that the song is letting off clogged up steam. Band member Arnaud de Bosredon had this to say about the writing “It’s a sunny song, bedevilled by dark verses […] The chorus is about having fun and dancing. The verses are about being alone in a dark place. Schizophrenic is how I’d describe it.“

If you are yearning for the era of disco balls, flares, and the Bee Gee’s, then this new single from Crush Club may be just what you are looking for.

Crush Club are a self proclaimed electro-disco duo made up of TC Milan and Le Chev. Most of their sound brings a modern makeover to a throwback disco sound, following in the footsteps of some of their favorite artists of all time, such as Stevie Wonder and George Michael. Their new song “Sunshine” furthers their mastery of this sound and their mission to bring the dance floor back, with its infectious four on the floor beat and silky guitar grooves. No disco powerhouse would be complete without a luxurious crescendo, and it’s ever present on Sunshine, as it builds momentum and explodes into a collage of vocal samples, crushing drums, choral chants and rhythmic piano keeping the whole section grounded. It’s equal parts Bee Gees and Modjo.

Although they have previously been featured in everything from FIFA soundtracks to Tommy Hilfiger campaigns, the Duo seem very excited about “Sunshine” and had this to say about the celebratory single:

“Sunshine is the moment you realize where your happiness is, and that you’re already on the road towards it. Though there are accidents and detours, it’s a delight to be here. Musically we were inspired by two of our favorite songwriters, Stevie Wonder and George Michael. Using our patented “make a disco song and then sample ourselves” technique and the blueprint for uplifting, soulful pop anthems, we aimed to take Sunshine to a spiritual level. We’re happy to announce that it’s the lead single off an upcoming EP that we’re excited to release very soon.”

Quirky twosome True Religion have released a summery new track called ‘Que Bonita’, alongside a music video. The song is an unusual fusion of house music and flamenco, that somehow works perfectly. 

The single flows from flamenco to a heavy bass house track. Soaring vocals, with lyrics in both Spanish and English, discuss the beauty of dance and partying, and the sensuous euphoric feelings that they produce. Flamenco guitarist Juan Carmine lends his musical prowess to the track, providing a smooth Spanish guitar melody, meanwhile. vocalist Amy Gill is the female voice featured in ‘Que Bonita’. All this is layered over addictive beats to create a perfect summer anthem.

True Religion are an unusual pair, formed of a year old DJ and a 59 year old neuropsychologist.  They take inspiration from a variety of sources, often emulating the sounds of artists like Peggy Gou, Bellaire and Solomun. The ethos of the band draws from the ideas of mindfulness, along with a focus on philosophy. They aim to infuse their music with their love of mindfulness and meditation, and how it has helped them progress in their lives. The members believe in an ethos of kindness, consciousness, friendship, and self improvement.

Their music can be described as a mixture of underground house and techno music, with both Spanish and English influences both in music and language. True Religion use a melding of genres to create their own singular spin that makes their music so memorable.

This new single has been release with a music video, directed by the talented Alexandra Iglesias. The ‘Que Bonita’ music video features popping summery visuals. The visuals make beautiful use of the quirky take on flamenco and summer style, with vivid pinks and yellows worn by the performers bursting out of the video. A beach setting accentuates the warm, summery feeling of the track.

Listening to Que Bonita’s intro, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d started the wrong song. For half a minute, we’re given a solo performance from vocalist Amy Gill, paired fleetingly with guitarist Juan Carmona’s flamenco licks.

It’s a trick Kanye West goes back to again and again. Shine the spotlight on your songs’ standout elements, show them the respect they deserve, then slowly fold them into the rest of the track.

Particularly in the case of Carmona, his plucking is enveloped into a rolling tapestry of groove. He continues to join in playfully under the main beat, a contrasting texture to the rubbery, strutting bass, sun-soaked synth and endless layers of percussion.

In fact, I’ve heard it said that there’s no such thing as a passive audience during a Flamenco performance – a sentiment this track certainly shares. Organic claps, kicks and bubbling background chatter lace the tune, leaving you feeling like you’re already on the dancefloor.

Amy’s voice shines through all of it. She joins the long line of women who completely elevate dance tracks with superb performances. Her timbre (but maybe more so her lyrics) shares a lot with Jessie Ware on last year’s ‘What’s Your Pleasure’. Both sigh seductively over dappled synths, delivering commanding – if understated – performances.

But the DNA of ‘Que Bonita’ is more Balearic beat than disco bop, and since we won’t be dancing on Ibiza’s shores for at least another year, it’s pure escapism. Nevertheless, True Religion has cooked up something deliciously danceable, and we’re here for it.

Today, I would like to introduce you to one of the most novel musical acts currently performing today. The duo “True Religion” consist of the virtuosic flamenco guitarist Juan Carmona and the exceptional vocalist Amy Gill. With distinctive vocals, combined with pounding beats that will fill any dancefloor, “True Religion” have crafted one of the most unique sounds of the fast-growing underground music scene.

The exhilarating single “Que Bonita” begins with the strumming of Carmona’s tender guitar strings which immediately grabs the listener’s attention. Then, the exceptional, soulful vocals of Gill kick in, which will make any listener yearn to dissect every word that emerges from Gill’s vocal chords. Gill’s voice is very reminiscent of a young Sinead O’Connor, due to her unique ability to hit the highest of octaves. The first 50 seconds of this track allows the listener to hear Gill’s isolated vocals, combined with exceptional production work, Gill’s vocals have a distinctive ‘echo’ effect, which allows Gill to have the maximum emotional effect on the listener.

The track then takes an unexpected turn, when a house dance beat is introduced alongside Gill’s vocals, with Carmona’s distinctive guitar playing also making a much welcomed return. The music gradually grows into an irresistible electronic/dance track that will be welcomed at any nightclub in world, especially post COVID-19.

The wonderful attraction of “True Religion” is that you never know what they are going to do next. This is the case with “Que Bonita” as the track’s final two minutes contain no vocals and instead allow the listener to appreciate Carmona’s exceptional musicianship on both the guitar and piano, this is his moment to shine!

This track is a wonderful blend of flamenco and house, with influences from both England and Spain that will hopefully unite the whole continent of Europe during a period in which we arguably, the most isolated from each other. Check out “Que Bonita” if you haven’t already!

Consisting of a 50-year-old neuropsychologist and a 30-year-old DJ, the duo known as True Religion brings a unique perspective to underground house and techno music, especially on their latest single “Que Bonita.” Utilizing both Spanish and English influences, True Religion is able to create a sound that is very rare in underground house and techno music. Along with the duo, “Que Bonita” also features virtuosic flamenco guitarist Juan Carmona and vocalist Amy Gill.

“Que Bonita” opens with a flamenco that features Gill and Carmona together but quickly evolves into a driving funky groove. Combining both Spanish and English cultures, Gill sings in both English and Spanish throughout the track as the beat grows and adds more layers.

Lyrically, “Que Bonita” depicts the growing passion between two strangers, or soon to be lovers, in a bar or club. This subject matter is not foreign to True Religion but it is delivered in a much different manner than some of their other songs, such as “Consciousness.”

“Que Bonita” was also released alongside a music video. The video features two impassioned lovers, older in age, that still live life to the fullest and keep their fiery spark going. Although it does not show what I initially imagined the song would be about when I first heard it, this representation of the song still amplifies its message about love and passion withstanding time. The message of the song and the music seem to keep the lovers enthralled with each other, which is exactly what True Religion wants of its listeners… to be enthralled.
