Raw Soul Express Release Brand-New Old Skool Tune ‘Fate of the World’

Raw Soul Express has proved themselves as a band that requires no studio trickery or airbrushing, just artistic expertise. On the 1st February, the band released their new single entitled “Fate of the World” and confirmed they are still a soulful force to be reckoned with, some 45 years after they formed.

Raw Soul Express are a unique funk group birthed in Miami with a distinctively soulful sound, comprised of sultry lead vocals from Rick Washington and the instrumental prowesses of Chris Perkins, Tommy Johnson, John McMinn, Paull Mullen, Harold Seay and long-time bassist Albie Manno.

When you think of the 1970s you might think of the rise of bell-bottom jeans and disco balls, but it was also an era made famous by economic struggle, technological revolution and massive cultural change. Fast forward 45 years and some of those issues are still harrowingly reminiscent; 2020 has been a year consumed by crises such as the Australian bushfires and the Californian wildfires, Black Lives Matter protests and of course, the COVID-19 pandemic that shook the world to its core. ‘The Fate of the Word’ is a single that the band felt obligated to put out with a message that is as vital as ever.

The band members are all equally as excited about the new single and have reflected on the moral implications of the lyrics. Chris Perkins said: “if you are conscious about your surroundings, mentally, socially and economically with a deep concern for humanity and God and love for your fellow man and the environment, then Fate of the World addresses these issues in our society. It’s powerful, raw and its current. Unfortunately, it’s in real time.”

Raw Soul Express’ new single is characteristically syncopated and funky, containing delicious melodies and harmonies underscored by soulful bass and brass notes. In some ways, the single offers a form of escapism from the fateful reality we live in. But there are no preaching pleasantries, just simple, raw melodic symphonies and hard-hitting lyrics that entice the listener to confront the cataclysmic situation of the world.

The song itself was actually written by bassist and lead vocalist almost 25 years ago. Albie Manno said: “Because the song was written by myself and Rick some 25 years ago, I had no idea in 2019 when I was planning to make the video in 2020 what the images were going to be. To me, it just affirms that what we’ve been doing all along is what we were meant to do. As artists I believe we should reflect on the times, may they be good or bad.

“Caught in between, politics playing out the height of its dreams.

We can’t sit by, nothing’s as precious as one human life.”

Raw Soul Express directly ask the listener “is this the fate of the world?”

The lyrics are thought-provoking and raw. The video forces the viewer into a contemplative position as the observer, witnessing some scenes from the world’s most hard-hitting events through history and specifically 2020.

It is relevant yet timeless, and Raw Soul Express solidify their reputation as pioneers in the soul and funk scene by staying true to the genre with the track’s distinctive groove. The single is relevant yet timeless, inquisitive and self-aware: qualities that manifest as an honest commentary on the state of our global affairs.

Soleil Turns Heartbreak Into Self-Discovery on Soulful New Single “Heart Strings”

Published

There is something powerful about turning heartbreak into a reminder of your own worth. For New York-born, Miami-based singer-songwriter and DJ Soleil, that transformation is at the heart of her latest single, “Heart Strings.”

Following her soulful jazz interpretation of Dolly Parton’s timeless classic “Jolene” with “(A) Jolene (Cover),” Soleil returns with an original track that feels both intimate and expansive. “Heart Strings” blends R&B and Soul with touches of Blues, Funk, Jazz and Neo-Soul, creating a sultry, atmospheric soundscape that gives Soleil plenty of room to showcase her impressive vocal range.

But beneath the smooth production is a story many listeners will recognise: the complicated process of walking away from a relationship while trying to find yourself again.

“Heart Strings” moves through the emotional stages of looking back at a relationship that did not quite become what you hoped it would. There is nostalgia, disappointment and questioning, but Soleil never allows the song to remain trapped in sadness. Instead, it gradually becomes a statement of growth, self-love and reclamation.

As Soleil explains, the song “explores the phases of a less-than-ideal relationship,” with its lyrics moving “from questioning the past to embracing personal growth.” At its core, she says, the track captures “the bittersweet process of letting go while reclaiming the parts of yourself that someone else never gave you.”

That balance between vulnerability and strength is what makes “Heart Strings” particularly compelling. It is a heartbreak song, but it is not simply about losing someone. It is about rediscovering yourself once the relationship is over.

A Visual That Mirrors the Music

The accompanying music video, directed by Riccardo Solorzano, adds another layer to the song’s emotional journey.

Moving between black-and-white and full colour, the visual reflects the contrast running through “Heart Strings” itself: solemn yet uplifting, reflective yet ultimately empowering. The shifting imagery gives the impression of looking back at memories while simultaneously stepping into a new chapter.

Soleil is at the centre of it all, delivering a confident and expressive performance that highlights her experience as a seasoned live performer. The clever inclusion of crowd applause also gives the video an almost live-show atmosphere, making the viewer feel less like a spectator and more like part of the performance.

It is a fitting visual treatment for an artist whose career has consistently blurred the lines between recording artist, performer and DJ.

A Collaborative Soulful Sound

“Heart Strings” brings together a talented team around Soleil’s vision. Soleil co-wrote the track with CJ Hilton, who also produced the single. Richard Boisrond contributes guitar, with Moises Lenare on drums, Josh Walton on bass and Juan Santiago on keys. The track was mixed and mastered by renowned engineer Paolo Angulo.

The result is a polished production that leaves plenty of space for Soleil’s voice to lead the emotional narrative.

And there is more to come. “Heart Strings” sets the stage for Soleil’s upcoming single “Rubbish,” which will also arrive alongside its own music video.

From Carnegie Hall to Miami’s Dance Floors

Soleil’s artistry extends far beyond the recording studio. A singer-songwriter, DJ and vocal producer, she has built a sound that moves freely between Soul, R&B, Blues, EDM, Disco House, Deep House, Amapiano, Afrobeats, Baile Funk and Pop.

She has performed at major venues and events including Carnegie Hall, Miami Beach Bandshell, Hard Rock Live, Hard Rock Guitar Hotel, The Underline and Sofar Sounds, while also appearing at Art Basel activations, a FedEx Formula One corporate event, Funky Buddha Festival and Spirit Airlines’ #Music4Miles concert series.

Her DJ career has taken her across Miami and internationally, including an official Miami Music Week set for Lady of the House and Labelworx.

Her work has also earned attention from outlets including Grammy.com, Billboard Argentina, Dancing Astronaut, EDM Sauce, Rolling Stone India, EARMILK, We Rave You, ELEVATOR and The Hype Magazine, alongside support from 102.7 FM The Beach Miami.

Beyond the stage, Soleil is a voting member of The Recording Academy and serves on the Florida Chapter’s Songwriters & Composers Committee. She also mentors emerging artists through Grammy U, Women in Music and Symphonic Distro, while working with the Next Generation Music Foundation to help young people in foster care access music education and mentorship.

With “Heart Strings,” Soleil takes something deeply personal and turns it into something listeners can make their own. It is a song about the ache that remains after a relationship ends, but more importantly, it is about what happens when you finally choose yourself.

Sometimes letting go is not the end of the story. Sometimes it is where you start finding your way back to yourself.
