The album starts off perfectly with ‘Highway Diner Plates’, a track that clearly has Bob Dylan inspiration, it’s where Sullivan showcases his abilities for the very first time. Vocals and music all coming together wonderfully, it’s a track that by no means disappoints, and sets the tone nicely for the album. The second track, ‘All the While I Was Away’, is where Sullivan really shines – his vocals carry emotion and a vibe that is unrivalled, giving a performance that makes you want to listen to it again and again.

A start as good as this can be hard to maintain, so it left quite cautious that Sullivan may have already peaked on the album – how wrong we were. Sullivan carries on the demonstrate his clear ability and command for music, as he writes songs such as ‘If You Know What’s Good for You’, ‘The Olive Tree’ and ‘I’ve Encountered Many Struggles’, all showing the same quality as the start of the album.

After listening to ‘Gethsemane’, you will be addicted to the sound and talent of Reece Sullivan, as he puts out track after track of some of the best lyrical and vocal folk music we’ve heard for a long time, on top of music that sets a mood and tone with expert precision. Taking inspiration from some of his heroes such as Lewis Capaldi and Paolo Nutini, he hopes to become the latest Italo-Scot to conquer charts across the globe.

12 months in the waiting, Chris has poured his heart out into both the lyrical content and the music of his EP, with 6 songs capturing his country sound with a Scottish twist.

Singing about tough yet relatable topics of loss and battling through difficult times, Chris creates relatable songs in a contemporary country style, with tracks like ‘Here Comes The Rain’ and ‘The Only Love That Never Broke My Heart’ having more rock infused riffs and catchy beats, while fans are also treated to heartbreaking ballads in ‘Thunderstorms and Rain’ and ‘Drinking Song’. Chris shows his range of skill in music writing in the romantically heart warming song ‘Tonight I’m Yours’, and in the final track on the EP, ‘Freedom’, which is full of soul and passion with a melodic tone and soothing vocals.

After taking a trip to America and performing a number dates in Nashville in May 2019, Chris was quickly signed to Nashville-based label Century Music Group after being spotted by the President Art Ward.

The post Celtic folk-rock artist Davie Furey set to release new album ‘Haunted Streets’ appeared first on No.1 Music Blog.

Anita Gabrielle has been making folk music since the late 1960s, when her brother Michael introduced her to the powerful sounds of Joni Mitchell.

Her talent blended with her supreme work ethic saw her achieve national coverage in the 1980s with her band The Crew. She has also supported seminal artists such as Divine and Labi Siffre.

Anita has always strived to have a broad musical pallet. She has incorporated acoustic rock and pop into her music through her collaborations with artists like ZeNaNa and The Favourite Aunties.

However, ever since her brother was tragically diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease last year, Anita has made it her primary mission to enhance research into the disease through her latest EP ‘Just Neat’.

This EP is comprised of 6 wonderful tracks that were materialised during lockdown, with the intention of raising funds for Parkinson’s disease research. The EP’s leading single ‘Best Friends’ is a soothing experience fronted by Anita’s ethereal vocals, tranquil guitar licks and piano riffs.

‘Just Neat’ also saw Anita get the incredible chance to work with Grammy award winning Amy Wadge, who has previously collaborated with Ed Sheeran. Amy’s gentle vocals and her innate ability on the piano serve as a valuable addition to EP’s sound.

Anita says of Amy:

“Obviously, I was absolutely thrilled to be supported by someone with the credentials of an artist like Amy, who not only has worked with Ed Sheeran but many other major artists such as Camila Cabello and Lady
Antebellum too”

Anita is also a dedicated campaigner for older women’s rights and LGBTQ+ issues, humorously describing herself as a ‘dyke in a hat’.

if that’s not enough, Anita has recently fought off a cancer scare, with the removal of a kidney and hip replacement; her burning desire and enthusiasm for life is evident in her wonderfully melodic songs. Go and check out ‘Just Neat’ if you haven’t already!

The post Anita Gabrielle releases the radiant EP ‘Just Neat’ to help research into Parkinson’s Disease appeared first on No.1 Music Blog.

Their new single ‘New Year’ encompasses the joy of having one another in our lives. Now, granted it might sound a little soppy, but it is a brilliant, heartfelt song.

The London based folk-pop duo are also a married couple. Like one half of ABBA or Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, they’ve added their names to the list of songwriting couples. However, I’m sure this marriage is far stronger than the others in the list.

The pair draw on their backgrounds in classical music; their love of cheesy pop, classic rock and folk music. Don’t ask me how it works, but it definitely does. ‘New Year’ is the third single from this truly unique duo and it doesn’t disappoint.

As the tune begins, we’re greeted to some calm, relaxing acoustic guitar melodies performed by Toby. Immediately, you get the sense this song is one to really take in and listen to the meanings behind the lyrics.

With his soothing, rich voice Toby allows the listener to do just that. I’ve only ever heard one other singer with a similar style, making me wonder if Toby was the front man for Nizlopi on their hit single ‘JCB’ before he teamed up with Pip!

Admittedly, that might be a stretch, but if it’s true then I like him even more. Just to clarify, it has nothing to do with the fact I’m called Luke…..well, maybe a little.

Not to be outdone, Pip comes in with some brilliant harmonising tones, allowing their voices to bounce off one another.

The differentiating deep and high tones in the pair’s voices marry perfectly in the song, just like the acoustic guitar and ukulele combo. Again, don’t ask how it works, it just does.

My favourite part of the song has to be the lyrics themselves however. They’re incredibly heartfelt and definitely something any listener can relate to.

Coupled with the stripped back nature of the song, everything boils down to simple components and beautifully played stringed instruments. On the surface, this appears a very basic tune, but the interwoven meaning behind it elevates the track to something far more.

Like many who have had to adapt their plans due to Covid-19, his appearance at the ‘Country 2 Country festival’ at the SSE Hydro and his opportunity to move were cruelly snatched away, leaving him wondering how he would still make it in the country world. However, Chris never lets setbacks stop his ambition, and he’s pushed on to release his long-awaited EP ‘What Don’t Kill You’.

Chris has already had a country career that’s enough to make anyone jealous, having performed headline shows at Glasgow’s iconic venue King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut and the Celtic Connections show at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. His new EP has been 12 months in the making and puts a distinctly fresh twist on classic country.

Kicking off with the bouncy beat of ‘Here Comes The Rain’, Chris’ warm vocals have a distinct twang, transporting you straight to the Wild West on a journey of catchy, authentic country music. Moving throughout the EP, we have the touching, laid back love song ‘Tonight I’m Yours’ , and the instant earworm ‘Drinking Song’ with heart-warming lyrics encouraging you to keep on keeping on, regardless of what life throws your way.

Chris’ thoughtful lyrics continue into the gentle ‘Thunderstorms and Rain’, before the EP picks up again with the upbeat ‘The Only Love That Never Broke My Heart’ where he expresses his love for music. Finally, the EP comes to a close with the classic country sound of ‘Freedom’ which will have you wanting to listen to the EP over and over again.

Speaking of his struggles throughout 2020, Chris explained:

“2020 has been a crazy year. It was set to be a year full of highs – a performance at C2C Festival at The
Hydro in Glasgow alongside my favourite artists such as Luke Combs, an EP launch and then a move out to
Nashville in July. But in reality, like so many other people, the year was filled with lows. All my shows were
cancelled or rescheduled due to COVID and as a direct result of this my visa application fell through as I had
no activities lined up. In addition, the social distancing measures and restrictions in place slowed down the
EP release process. I’ve been fortunate enough to still be able to do something that I love and I’m hopeful
that next year things will slowly get back to normal. I’m looking forward to playing the rescheduled C2C gig
in Glasgow as well as the Texas Scottish Festival, in Decatur next May.”
