At 20-years-old Jack Rose has already conquered the music sector with numerous chart-topping singles as well as the spiritual sector with a hit ghost hunting show on Amazon TV. With such prestige at such a young age, and brand new track ‘Overdrive’ making waves, we got chatting to the star himself to find out more…

No1: How does it feel to have achieved such success – with multiple top chart placements – at such a young age? Was this something you used to dream of?

JR: To be completely honest it does feel incredible to have achieved what I have at 20 but at the end of the day I have to remember all the people and all my friends and fans who got me to where I am and pushed me to be better! I’m achieving my dream and I know for a fact I can excel more!

No1: What are your main musical aspirations?

JR: I will take what I get because the music industry is a hard place with so many talented artists fighting for the top spot and the spotlight but I would love to have a Number 1 and to perform at the o2 arena in North Greenwich, London because its one of my favourite venues and every time I go there all I think about is what it would be like to be on that stage!

No1: What did you learn from the recording/writing of overdrive?

JR: House is definitely a good place for my voice and it’s now opened up a whole new path in my career to collaborate with people who I wouldn’t of 2 years ago, I, of course, will always keep to my roots in pop/RnB but Overdrive opened a lot of new pathways for me as an artist!

No1: Obviously you have gathered fans from your ghost hunting show on Amazon, is it hard to balance the music and tv show production or does it come naturally?

JR: It’s fairly simple to manage because I make sure I film the ghost shows before I have a string of gigs so I have enough time to rehearse and perfect my sets but, of course, it’s draining because sometimes we have to drive for hours and arrive at locations at 3-4pm set up the cameras meet our guests and work out what we have to say for introductions, walk around the building to check places out, and find out the history and then record from 10pm-3-4am and not get home till 6-7am so its good to have that little break in-between. But because of covid I haven’t been able to get out and record some more episodes because obviously restrictions and virus spreading because it’s better to be safe than sorry!

No1: I’ve read that your musical influences go from Eminem to Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran – how do they think they’ve affected the way in which you write your music?

JR: In my earlier years Ed Sheeran definitely helped me but I think nowadays I’m inspired by artists such as Iann Dior, 24k Goldn, Joel Corey, Nathan Dawe and the late Juice Wrld and I get my passion for rap and RnB from Bruno and Eminem!

No1: In terms of your musical career, what’s the next step for Jack Rose?

JR: Look, anything could happen in the next 5-10 years but I just wanna increase my work rate and try get as many tracks out as possible over the next year or so! Start performing more often like I was before covid too!

No1: The track Overdrive is a glorious taste of summer in such cold autumn – would you say the track was written for such a ‘warming purpose’?

JR: The track is a song that was released when I was in school by Oliver Heldens and Becky Hill and it was one of my favourite songs and I still listen to it in the gym and it was summer when that track was released.

No1: You first decided to put out a track when you were 13, how has your music evolved over the years?

JR: I was 13 and cheesy pop was where I was but as I got older I started to mature and released songs such as Woman Like The Ocean and Birthday Cake and since turning 18 I’ve just written and recorded songs that everyone can listen too, Whether its the breakup song Better On My Own, the ‘I don’t care that your gone’ songs such as Waste Of My Time and the American-rap-influenced ‘Rockstar’ which I have written myself and taken complete control of, I’m 20 years old and I’m still young and have a lot more maturing to do!

No1: How has the pandemic affected your songwriting/recording process? Have you been hit hard?

JR: I had a song recorded just before the lockdown which we released in May 2020 called Waste Of My Time and I spent time back and forth with my producers and team with tracks in which some we scrapped and some we’ve got in the pipe line at the moment! But the thing I missed the most was performing because I love entertaining people!

No1: I’ve seen you were scheduled to do a few shows including Lincoln Pride in September, how did it feel to be back performing live?

I didn’t do Lincoln pride this year I did that in 2019 but that was an incredible show but I did Gloucester pride and Lancaster Pride as well as Morecambe Pride and I have two shows booked for November! I’m going to be doing Greenwich Christmas Lights and Paddock Wood Christmas Lights which I will also be hosting as well as performing.
