It’s the beginning of Autumn also known as ‘Spooky Season’ as there’s no better artist to get us in the mood for all things spooky than the legendary Paul Roland. Hailed as the Psych Pop prince and goth rock guru Paul Roland is gigging again with a NEW YOUNG band of experienced Italian musicians.

  Paul’s impressive career has spanned over 40 years, which he has achieved a huge wealth of success with more than 20 diverse albums and having produced a gothic ballet Paul has earned a loyal cult following in the UK, Europe and the US.

Formerly managed by June Bolan, the widow of T. Rex frontman, Marc Bolan, Paul spent the past 40 years spinning tales of Victorian villains, eccentric Edwardian inventors and the supernatural against a backdrop of gothic-psych-baroque pop. 

You don’t have to take my word for it as In January 2016 ‘Rolling Stone’ named his 1987 album ‘A Cabinet of Curiosities’ “one of the best albums you’ve never heard” I think that says it all.

Halsey surprised her fans on Wednesday with the announcement that she’s pregnant.

The 26-year-old pop star revealed she’s expecting her first child via a post on her Instagram account, sharing a trio of images of her bare belly taken by photographer Sam Dameshek. “Surprise,” she captioned the shot in which she poses topless in jeans in front of a white and purple silk backdrop, adding a baby bottle, rainbow, and angel emoji.

Dameshek also thanked Halsey for the opportunity to celebrate this milestone with her, writing on his own account, “you’re gonna be a great mother – thank you for letting me document this moment.” And her manager Anthony Tomasli commented on the big news, writing, “I love you with all my heart!!! we’re all so happy for you!! you’re gonna be the best mom ever.”

Like many who have had to adapt their plans due to Covid-19, his appearance at the ‘Country 2 Country festival’ at the SSE Hydro and his opportunity to move were cruelly snatched away, leaving him wondering how he would still make it in the country world. However, Chris never lets setbacks stop his ambition, and he’s pushed on to release his long-awaited EP ‘What Don’t Kill You’.

Chris has already had a country career that’s enough to make anyone jealous, having performed headline shows at Glasgow’s iconic venue King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut and the Celtic Connections show at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. His new EP has been 12 months in the making and puts a distinctly fresh twist on classic country.

Kicking off with the bouncy beat of ‘Here Comes The Rain’, Chris’ warm vocals have a distinct twang, transporting you straight to the Wild West on a journey of catchy, authentic country music. Moving throughout the EP, we have the touching, laid back love song ‘Tonight I’m Yours’ , and the instant earworm ‘Drinking Song’ with heart-warming lyrics encouraging you to keep on keeping on, regardless of what life throws your way.

Chris’ thoughtful lyrics continue into the gentle ‘Thunderstorms and Rain’, before the EP picks up again with the upbeat ‘The Only Love That Never Broke My Heart’ where he expresses his love for music. Finally, the EP comes to a close with the classic country sound of ‘Freedom’ which will have you wanting to listen to the EP over and over again.

Speaking of his struggles throughout 2020, Chris explained:

“2020 has been a crazy year. It was set to be a year full of highs – a performance at C2C Festival at The
Hydro in Glasgow alongside my favourite artists such as Luke Combs, an EP launch and then a move out to
Nashville in July. But in reality, like so many other people, the year was filled with lows. All my shows were
cancelled or rescheduled due to COVID and as a direct result of this my visa application fell through as I had
no activities lined up. In addition, the social distancing measures and restrictions in place slowed down the
EP release process. I’ve been fortunate enough to still be able to do something that I love and I’m hopeful
that next year things will slowly get back to normal. I’m looking forward to playing the rescheduled C2C gig
in Glasgow as well as the Texas Scottish Festival, in Decatur next May.”

As reported by NME, Miley Cyrus has opened up about the trauma she experienced following intense media scrutiny over her body – something which she says began in her teens.

In a new cover interview with Rolling Stone, Cyrus opened up about some of her experiences and how much they affected her from a young age.

Cyrus said: “At one point I was like, ‘Yo, when I’m 16 and you’re circling my boobs and s*** like that…I’m the bad guy?’

“I think people are starting to go, ‘Wait, wait, wait. That was f***** up.’ They’re starting to know who the enemy and who the victim was there.”

Cyrus continued: “I think I knew who I was meant to be, but I’m sure there’s something in there…Some trauma of feeling so criticised, I think, for what I felt was pretty average teenage, early exploration.”

Cyrus went on to say “big progress” had occurred since her teens in media coverage “especially towards women and bodies.”

“I don’t even know if you really can slut-shame now. Is that even a thing?’ Cyrus said. “The media hasn’t really slut-shamed me in a long time.

Earlier this week (December 4), Cyrus performed a cover of Hole’s 1994 classic, ‘Doll Parts’ on The Howard Stern Show.

It’s the latest in a string of rock-oriented covers Cyrus has delivered throughout 2020. In recent months, the singer has given her rendition on the likes of Blondie and The Cranberries, earning accolades from both.

In a four-star review of Cyrus’ latest album, NME said it saw the singer reinvent herself, with the record possessing “infinitely more grit” than its predecessor, 2017’s ‘Younger Now’.

The review continued: “‘Plastic Hearts’ finds the pop-star-turned-rock-star going hell for leather – and when Miley Cyrus is at full throttle, it’s an absolute blast.”

‘Daniel Isn’t Real’s soundtrack was composed by Brighton-based artist Clark, responsible for scores behind ‘The Last Panthers’ (starring Samantha Morton and John Hurt), ‘Rellik’ and Channel 4’s ‘Kiri’ (starring Sarah Lancashire). Already renowned for his captivating film compositions, Clark’s latest project sees him exploring dark and twisted sounds, with a vision for the soundtrack nothing short of terrifying.

“I like how dark and unusual some of the harmony is. There’s an energy and diversity. It’s a continuation of my experiments with acoustic instruments like on ‘Body Riddle’ and ‘Iradelphic’. Bernard Hermann, Oizo and Thelonious Monk are also in the mix somewhere. All of this stuff is like gobbling up as many musical resources as I can and metabolising it into new Clark gear.”

Clark

Originally composing the music through MIDI, Clark utilises classic horror instrumentation to help the soundtrack slowly creep into the viewers consciousness and inject the eerie ambience straight into their veins. Taking influence from orchestral scores and working with the East/West Orchestra in Budapest, Clark later replaces his MIDI tracks with real cello, viola and double bass recordings.

“I’ve had no formal education in music and am largely self-taught, so have a mild sense of being an outsider / imposter. But I have strong intuitions that lead me places. ‘Isolation Theme’ is one of my first investigations into more complex harmony, using tonal centres that constantly shift and dissolve in an emotionally engaging way. I composed this as a four-part harmony, slowly going out of phase and building. Spiky angular motifs played with widescreen orchestral textures really became vital to the musical identity of the film. It was magical hearing it played in the room by the orchestra in Budapest. I’d love to perform this live, with more players…hearing it played by real humans after you have concocted the geometry in a theoretical space on a score, that moment of waiting to hear it come alive is thrilling.”

Clark

Clark’s 20-track score for the film includes three new bonus tracks, ‘Creel Etude’, Amor’ (C.B. Rework) and the Thom Yorke remix of ‘Isolation Theme’.

“I started working on ‘Daniel Isn’t Real’ around the time I was asked to remix Thom’s track ‘Not The News’, so it has a neat circularity closing the expanded edition of the score with him remixing me. I was surprised how well the midi translated to his remix. He got such a good pure electronic tone out of it. It amazes me how simple note information, if it has a nice shape, can transmit to multiple voicings.”

Clark

After collaborating with one another, Yorke’s dark compositional talents proved tailor-made for Clark’s horror score. Heavily focusing on the ambience of the song, Yorke projects the dooming feeling experienced at the start of lockdown, capturing the sound that a new kind of fear instils in us.

“I took Clark’s score of ‘Isolation Theme’ and simply made it feel like the moment we were entering; being told to stay indoors, entering a new type of silence. I guess I simplified it in a way, into waveforms that were being disrupted. I was surprised how frightening it became”

Thom Yorke

The score certainly captures a gut-wrenching aura of terror and experimentation, leaving you looking over your shoulders and under your beds. Self-describing the fear-inducing tracks, Clark likens the music to, “a clown about to ruin someone’s 5th birthday party, whimsical and unassuming in contrast to galvanising strident synth action, a primitive motif of pure minor sadness, gabba, thrash metal and daffodils”.
