Songwriter and Bansuri player, Roy Sunak has announced that he will be releasing his new album entitled Tear In The River during December 2022 which Features all original songs. Spiritually fuelled, the album has been rewritten with purpose and fascinating stories behind each song.

Firstly exploring jazz trumpet, Roy has had a lot of experience collaborating with a variety of artists all within the genres of jazz, salsa and funk when he traveled to New York and Spain in his musical early years. With large experience playing live at musical festivals across the world, Roy eventually found his calling in India. Discovering the sound of a bansuri which is an Indian bamboo flute, Roy Pursued his fascination and studied the bansuri where he learned the traditional music of northern India.

One particular track from the album entitled Berceuse pour le Petit Jean Pierre has a particularly meaningful and touching tribute story. When talking about the meaning of the song, Roy explains: It is a lullaby that I wrote for a bird that I took care of. At some point it felt as if he had a special bond. The bird liked music very much and when I played that song it went to sleep. After a few weeks I decided to bring Jean Pierre back to the nature where he belongs and would be happier. This song and the story behind it gave much significance when my father passed away 6 months ago. Letting go of a person/being while knowing that he is in another, better place without looking at my loss. Generating compassion for the other being without attachment.

Now developing his skills further, the new album Tear In The River will be available in December 2022.

A new week brings more exceptional music from all corners of the globe.

First up we have some intriguing post-pop from Pauline Andres. “Medicine Woman” is a trippy, atmospheric piece, with synth washes breaking against programmed beats and subtle guitars. It makes for a fine, hazy backdrop to Andres’ ghostly vocals. Fans of progressive, intelligent pop will want to check this, and her forthcoming album All Them Ghosts, out.

From Pauline Andres’ official bio: “Born in France, she grew up in a family of mainly Hungarian and Balkan descent by the Franco-German border in a town where the local dialect was more common than the official language. Caught between the fun of it all and the harsh personal and social truths that lead to such an environment, Andres started taking notes.”

Next, another fascinating project – Zar by JuJu Sounds.

“JuJu Sounds collates field recordings and stories about music from all corners of the globe – the peripheral music genres, rhythms and melodies accompanying everyday life, and the practices related to transcendental experiences, initiation and ritual. “

The art of field-recording has a long and distinguished history, responsible for capturing some of the greatest music from across the world. This release focuses on Zār, a “…possession cult practiced on the outskirts of the rapidly-modernising societies of North Africa and the Middle East.” The music is as spell-binding as you might expect.

You can pick this up via Bandcamp now, in digital, vinyl and CD form.

Thirdly, we have French fingerpicking-jazz guitar player Jean-Baptiste Hardy, who has two imminent album releases, Which Way, recording in trio format, and a solo effort, Confidences. Jean-Baptiste Hardy studied classical styles before tuning into the likes of Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed and Marcel Dadi.

Jean-Baptiste’s playing is exceptional, across a mixture of jazz and other styles, and both albums are well worth investigating. This is invigorating, fresh music which captures both the ear and the soul.

2020 was supposed to be the year country artist Chris Andreucci followed his dream of moving to the heart of country music, Nashville. Unfortunately along with numerous of festival performances being cancelled, so was his plans for moving. Still determined to make those dreams a reality, Chris has released his new EP, ‘What Don’t Kill You’, a long-awaited six track collection.

The Glasgow based singer has already played headline shows at Glasgow’s iconic venue King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, as well as the Celtic Connections show at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, not forgetting that he’s performed at the huge SSE Hydro Arena in Scotland. Taking inspiration from some of his heroes such as Lewis Capaldi and Paolo Nutini, he hopes to become the latest Italo-Scot to conquer charts across the globe.

12 months in the waiting, Chris has poured his heart out into both the lyrical content and the music of his EP, with 6 songs capturing his country sound with a Scottish twist.

Singing about tough yet relatable topics of loss and battling through difficult times, Chris creates relatable songs in a contemporary country style, with tracks like ‘Here Comes The Rain’ and ‘The Only Love That Never Broke My Heart’ having more rock infused riffs and catchy beats, while fans are also treated to heartbreaking ballads in ‘Thunderstorms and Rain’ and ‘Drinking Song’. Chris shows his range of skill in music writing in the romantically heart warming song ‘Tonight I’m Yours’, and in the final track on the EP, ‘Freedom’, which is full of soul and passion with a melodic tone and soothing vocals.

After taking a trip to America and performing a number dates in Nashville in May 2019, Chris was quickly signed to Nashville-based label Century Music Group after being spotted by the President Art Ward.

Based in Kyiv, Ukrainian trio In Signs are harking back to the early 00’s rock scene with their new single ‘Knock Knock’.

However, unlike some artists, these guys have a different desire for their music.

“We want to prove that music is not about money, it’s about the passion of your life. I’m a closed person and making music and writing lyrics is a perfect way for me to communicate with people.

…It such a great pleasure to play live some songs which I created from the very beginning. There are a lot of ways to create music but all our songs start from an acoustic guitar and vocals” – Arsen.

With a nice little backstory to boot, I think it’s about time we give this single a closer look.

Now, at the beginning, I was freaked out. An eerie opening greets you like the start of ‘Thriller’ by Michael Jackson.

Like ‘Thriller’, the song soon had new life breathed into it and it certainly got going. To start, listeners are met by deep tones and a low beat from Arsen and the rest of the band. I wasn’t sure at the start of this one, but stick with me here.

It took my mind back to the early 00’s with the likes of Fall Out Boy running through my head. For the younger ones among us, I’d say they draw similarities to Imagine Dragons. To be fair the, likeness is uncanny. Has anyone seen Imagine Dragons and In Signs in the same room? Just saying…

The track has a real punchy tune, packed with some ferocious energy, making sure you sit up and listen. Every time there’s a high octane chorus or verse, a bassy guitar pulsates your eardrums getting your inner rocker ready.

It really makes me want to jump back in a mosh pit, undo my man bun and get head banging immediately. At the same time, I’d absolutely love to scream this song out from the bottom of my lungs.

Two thirds through, the track changes up slightly with a less heavy vibe. It gives us a different layer to the track, showing that the band aren’t just a one trick pony.

All in all, this is an incredibly professional track with a high quality finish that shines through.

Give them a listen on Spotify to get those rock juices flowing!
