Anita Gabrielle gives a voice to the older LGBTQ+ community and supports Parkinson’s research with heartwarming EP
With LGBTQ+ musicians slowly gaining more recognition within mainstream media, it’s easy for listeners to forget the years of fighting required for radio stations and streaming platforms to platform queer music and culture.
Someone well-versed in the struggles of this battle is singer/songwriter, and self-proclaimed ‘dyke in a hat’, Anita Gabrielle. Spending her life striving to amplify her voice within the music industry and beyond, Gabrielle has pushed past the obstacles of being a queer, female artist, even in her older years.
From being outed as a lesbian in a newspaper at the beginning of the 1980s to recently battling a cancer scare, the removal of a kidney and a hip replacement, Anita has shown immense strength which shines through in her music alongside evident passion and a new-found burst of energy.
Her current project is her upcoming EP ‘Just Neat’, inspired by her brother Michael who has Parkinson’s Disease, with the aim of raising both awareness and funds to assist ot..
