Chris Andreucci is set to take up the gauntlet laid down by fellow scots Lewis Capaldi and Paolo Nutini, and command radio waves on both sides of The Atlantic. The Glasgow-based Chris managed to bag himself a record deal with the Nashville label ‘Century Music Group’ in 2019, with the label’s president expressing huge admiration for Chris’s pristine musical talents.

Despite not yet releasing a full studio album, Chris has already performed at some of Scotland’s most prestigious venues like the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, where a little band called Oasis were first discovered. 2020 was set to be the year of Chris Andreucci, with plans for major festival dates, as well as his intention to move out to Nashville to try and conquer the American soundwaves, but COVID-19 intervened.

“2020 has been a crazy year. It was set to be a year full of highs – a performance at C2C Festival at The Hydro in Glasgow alongside my favourite artists such as Luke Combs, an EP launch and then a move out to
Nashville in July. But in reality, like so many other people, the year was filled with lows. All my shows were cancelled or rescheduled due to COVID and as a direct result of this my visa application fell through as I had

All of Chris’ plans for 2020 were thrown on the scrap heap, but he will not be deterred in fulfilling his boundless potential with the release of his new EP ‘What Don’t Kill You’.

What Don’t Kill You boasts an enormous range of instrumentation, with ragingly brisk electric guitars and thundering vocals on the opening track ‘Here Comes The Rain’. Complementing this sound is a more tender acoustic guitar on the track ‘Thunderstorms and Rain’.

Overall, it’s the songs ‘Tonight I’m Yours’ and ‘Freedom’ that are the EP’s procurement. This is where Chris Andreucci showcases his instinctive ability to craft powerful tales of modern day romance. This EP is very mercurial and covers all spheres of the emotional spectrum, from being very uplifting in ‘The Only Love That Never Broke My Heart’, to creating a devastating, sorrowful tale of a break-up in ‘Drinking Song’.

2020 was meant to be the year that Chris Andreucci broke into the mainstream and I believe if it wasn’t for COVID, he would have fulfilled his destiny. Still, I have a feeling that 2021 will be the year that Chris Andreucci joins the dynasty of great Scottish musicians who have conquered the world.

Their new single ‘New Year’ encompasses the joy of having one another in our lives. Now, granted it might sound a little soppy, but it is a brilliant, heartfelt song.

The London based folk-pop duo are also a married couple. Like one half of ABBA or Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, they’ve added their names to the list of songwriting couples. However, I’m sure this marriage is far stronger than the others in the list.

The pair draw on their backgrounds in classical music; their love of cheesy pop, classic rock and folk music. Don’t ask me how it works, but it definitely does. ‘New Year’ is the third single from this truly unique duo and it doesn’t disappoint.

As the tune begins, we’re greeted to some calm, relaxing acoustic guitar melodies performed by Toby. Immediately, you get the sense this song is one to really take in and listen to the meanings behind the lyrics.

With his soothing, rich voice Toby allows the listener to do just that. I’ve only ever heard one other singer with a similar style, making me wonder if Toby was the front man for Nizlopi on their hit single ‘JCB’ before he teamed up with Pip!

Admittedly, that might be a stretch, but if it’s true then I like him even more. Just to clarify, it has nothing to do with the fact I’m called Luke…..well, maybe a little.

Not to be outdone, Pip comes in with some brilliant harmonising tones, allowing their voices to bounce off one another.

The differentiating deep and high tones in the pair’s voices marry perfectly in the song, just like the acoustic guitar and ukulele combo. Again, don’t ask how it works, it just does.

My favourite part of the song has to be the lyrics themselves however. They’re incredibly heartfelt and definitely something any listener can relate to.

Coupled with the stripped back nature of the song, everything boils down to simple components and beautifully played stringed instruments. On the surface, this appears a very basic tune, but the interwoven meaning behind it elevates the track to something far more.

Like many who have had to adapt their plans due to Covid-19, his appearance at the ‘Country 2 Country festival’ at the SSE Hydro and his opportunity to move were cruelly snatched away, leaving him wondering how he would still make it in the country world. However, Chris never lets setbacks stop his ambition, and he’s pushed on to release his long-awaited EP ‘What Don’t Kill You’.

Chris has already had a country career that’s enough to make anyone jealous, having performed headline shows at Glasgow’s iconic venue King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut and the Celtic Connections show at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. His new EP has been 12 months in the making and puts a distinctly fresh twist on classic country.

Kicking off with the bouncy beat of ‘Here Comes The Rain’, Chris’ warm vocals have a distinct twang, transporting you straight to the Wild West on a journey of catchy, authentic country music. Moving throughout the EP, we have the touching, laid back love song ‘Tonight I’m Yours’ , and the instant earworm ‘Drinking Song’ with heart-warming lyrics encouraging you to keep on keeping on, regardless of what life throws your way.

Chris’ thoughtful lyrics continue into the gentle ‘Thunderstorms and Rain’, before the EP picks up again with the upbeat ‘The Only Love That Never Broke My Heart’ where he expresses his love for music. Finally, the EP comes to a close with the classic country sound of ‘Freedom’ which will have you wanting to listen to the EP over and over again.

Speaking of his struggles throughout 2020, Chris explained:

no activities lined up. In addition, the social distancing measures and restrictions in place slowed down the
EP release process. I’ve been fortunate enough to still be able to do something that I love and I’m hopeful
that next year things will slowly get back to normal. I’m looking forward to playing the rescheduled C2C gig
in Glasgow as well as the Texas Scottish Festival, in Decatur next May.”

The single, ‘It’s Christmas’, has been released after Elle decided to do more than just help the homeless in her hometown of Southampton and set her sights on the rest of the nation.

She’s raising money for homeless charity Shelter, to not only widen awareness but get them some vital funds ready for the festive season.

A percentage of all the funds from downloads and views of Elle’s music video (which you can watch below!) will go directly to the charity to help prevent homelessness in the lockdown and festive period.

Almost every Sunday Elle goes out with her mum delivering sandwiches, cake and fruit to those sleeping rough on the streets. She sets an example which we should all follow, not just at Christmas but all year round.

Elle said: “I just hope this song makes people think about homeless people this Christmas. It must be horrible to live on the streets and I just want to try and help them more if I can. Thank you to everyone who supports this fundraising campaign.”

Someone well-versed in the struggles of this battle is singer/songwriter, and self-proclaimed ‘dyke in a hat’, Anita Gabrielle. Spending her life striving to amplify her voice within the music industry and beyond, Gabrielle has pushed past the obstacles of being a queer, female artist, even in her older years.

From being outed as a lesbian in a newspaper at the beginning of the 1980s to recently battling a cancer scare, the removal of a kidney and a hip replacement, Anita has shown immense strength which shines through in her music alongside evident passion and a new-found burst of energy.

Her current project is her upcoming EP ‘Just Neat’, inspired by her brother Michael who has Parkinson’s Disease, with the aim of raising both awareness and funds to assist others affected by the condition.

Her efforts have led to her being recognised by Award-winning songwriter Amy Wadge, who has worked with huge stars like Ed Sheeran, and now contributes vocals and pianos on Gabrielle’s upcoming single ‘Best Friends’.

“Obviously, I was absolutely thrilled to be supported by someone with the credentials of an artist like Amy, who not only has worked with Ed Sheeran but many other major artists such as Camila Cabello and Lady Antebellum too”.

Bradford-based Anita has been been writing and performing music since the late 1960s when Michael first introduced her to the music of Joni Mitchell, who remains her idol and musical inspiration to this day.

Throughout her career, she’s supported big names like Divine and Labi Siffre and has performed with ZeNaNa and ‘mature girl group’, The Favourite Aunties.

Gradually introducing elements of pop, acoustic rock and folk, Anita has spent years crafting her wonderfully individual sound which she is more than ready to share with the world once again.

The 5 track EP demonstrates Anita’s intricate attention to detail within her songwriting and her stunningly soothing vocals, perfectly accompanied by twinkling, calming acoustic guitar.

From the heart-warming tribute ‘Best Friends’ to the relatable ‘I Want To Go Out Outside Again’, Anita’s words of wisdom will have you gripped throughout and will leave you with the unmistakable feeling of warmth, as if you’ve gotten to know a new friend.
